MAS DE JANINY 'Le Temps des Gitans' (2009) 100% Carignan
Jolly, fruity and fun.
However the darker more coco-y elements are not here, just oodles and oodles more fruit. All manner of red berries all sitting happily amongst lovely refreshing acidity.
DOMAINE LA COLOMBETTE Plume Rose 9%abv 100% Grenache
A lovely ripe, juicy, soft rosé that is just too easy to drink. They only use 'free run' juice and the end result is delicious and bursting with Mediterranean sun.
CHATEAU DE ROQUEFORT 'Corail' 2009 HALF BOTTLE Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan, Vermentino and Clairette
CHATEAU DU ROQUEFORT 'Corail' (2009) Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan, Vermentino and Clairette
MAS D'AUZIERES 'Rires et Sourires' Rose (2007) Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre
A deep, deep rose colour.
Legend has it that this wine was the result of a small error in the winery. After harvest, Irene had filled the tanks with grapes to start the fermentation process. As it was her first vintage she had misjudged the amount of swelling that goes on in during the process and precious juice began to squirt from every seam of the tank. Quickly she coupled up some pipes and bled off this excess fluid - et voila! The rose was created.
Intense ripe, spicy cherry fruit and lovely fresh crisp acidity. For those who like big, blockbuster pinks - an absolute treat.
DOMAINE DU BAGNOL Cassis Rose (2008) Coteaux du Languedoc
39% Cinsault, 37% Grenache, 24% Mourvedre
The crown king of rosé.
We believe that there are few that match the elegance and beauty of the wines form this small historic fishing town. With just a handful of producers allowed to make this style, getting hold of them is almost as much about who you know. Availability is limited, but if you are going to only drink one rosé this year - this has to be it.
DOMAINE LES LUQUETTES Bandol Rose (2009)
FRANCOIS CROCHET Sancerre Rose (2008)
100% Pinot Noir
The lightest, most delicate yet beautiful rose on our list.
There is a merest suggestion of pink in this wine and likewise the flavours are all about delicacy and elegance. Definitely a rose for consumption with food - the acidity is as marked as in the whites. But what a wine to have with a delicate light Brill like fish or with this acidity maybe even some Sole.
