DOMAINE JJ GIRARD Savigny les Beaune (2005)
100% Pinot Noir
LOUIS CHENU PERE ET FILS 'Aux Clous' (2007) Savigny les Beaune 1er Cru
100% Pinot Noir
One of the best value 2005 red Burgundies we have tried.
This family estate has gone from strength to strength since the two daugthers (Caroline and Juliette) took over - now acheiving critical acclaim in all the right publications. Yet prices still remain at a realistic level.
Fresh, red fruits and light perfumey notes. It is still very classically minded - this is no new world 'wanna be', but still delightfully approachable.
DOMAINE BOUDAU 'Patrimoine' (2007) Cotes du Roussillon Villages
Domaine Boudau
70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Carignan
A more traditional style of Roussillon, high in Grenache. Soft, red fruits with a lovely woodland, bramble character. The fruit is very ripe with a slight jammy hint but this make the wine even more instantly enjoyable.
CHATEAU FOURCAS DUMONT (2003) Listrac Medoc
MAS D'AUZIERES 'Le Bois de Perie' (2005) Coteaux du Languedoc
90% Syrah / 7% Grenache / 3% Mourvedre
Soft woody notes on the nose and a lovely herbacious, concentrated fruit behind. Dark mocha on the palate and a soft, silky feel with crisp chunky tannins. A very well made wine.
CHATEAU REVELETTE Le Grand Rouge (2004) Coteaux d'Aix en Provence
44% Syrah / 28% Cabernet Sauvignon / 24% Grenache / 4% Carignan
Organic
DOMAINE OLIVIER PITHON 'Saturne' (2004) Cotes du Roussillon Villages
Domaine Olivier Pithon

SEBASTIEN DAVID 'In Vivo' (2007) Saint Nicolas Bourgueil
100% Cabernet Franc
All the intensity and depth of Cabernet Franc and with a beautiful elegance.
Stony, mineral almost nutritious notes with a lovely juicy acidity - great structure. There's a soft 'squidgy' character to the palate, it's almost like the flesh of the grape. A very interesting dark, rolling finish - very classy impression.
DOMAINE MATASSA 'Romanissa' (2005) Vin de Pays des Cotes Catalanes
70% Grenache / 15% Carignan / 10% Mourvedre / 5% Cabernet Sauvignon
"Planted on steep schist or slate slopes at an altitude of 200-300 m above sea level. Harvested in August 2005 with a yield of just 18 hl/ha. The grapes were hand-sorted, destemmed but not crushed. Indigenous yeast fermentation at 24°C over 14 days with gentle foot-treading. Malolactic in French oak and 90% matured for 20 months in 500 l demi-muid, French oak, 20% new, remaining 10% in 228 l Burgundy pièces, none new. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans. TA 6.57 g/l, pH 3.30, RS 1.4 g/l.
Spicy, lifted on the nose by a clear note of volatility, surprising in this wine (I usually find Matassa reds and whites on the happily reductive side). Lovely fine texture and depth, a little meaty and surprisingly savoury. Vestiges of firm tannin. I might have put this in Italy in a blind tasting. Delicious freshness and no sign of heat even at 13.5%. - 17 Drink 2009-11 " www.jancisrobinson.com
DOMAINE RICHARD ROTTIERS 'Champ de Cour' 2008 Moulin a Vent
DOMAINE JJ GIRARD Les Peuillets (2006) Savigny les Beaune 1er Cru
100% Pinot Noir
"This is fresh, bright, pure and expressive with lovely red pinot fruit aromas preceding the supple and attractively textured, delicious and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that display the classic Peuillets minerality on the persistent finish." - Allen Meadows 'Burghound.com'
ERIC TEXIER Saint Joseph Vieille Vignes (2008) 100% Syrah
Eric's second vintage from these rented St Joseph vineyards.
On the more restrained end of the St Joseph scale - waxy soft fruit with gentle wood notes. Seems well crafted rather then the raw power of some from this appellation , making this wine maybe a bit more appealing to a wider audience.

DOMAINE JOBLOT 'Pieds de Chaume' (2006) Givry Rouge

"A very pinot nose of fresh cherry and raspberry leads to round, supple, and somewhat light flavors that possess good detail and vibrancy plus an attractive mouth feel on the acceptably long finish." - Allen Meadows 'Burghound.com'.
