CHATEAU DE JURQUE Jurancon 'SEDUCTION' (2007) 100% Petit Manseng
A rich, oily, full sweet wine that still shows the Domaines more feminine style. Intense ripe berries and a good use of oak combine to give a very tangy, citrusy, slight waxy elegance. Great balance of acidity and sweetness throughout.
DOMAINE BOUDAU Rivesaltes sur Grains (2007) 100% Grenache
Sweet, red bramble fruits with a silky soft dark chocolate topping. Some port like flavours but without the heady alcohol levels.
Perfect accompaniment to chocolate desserts.
DOMAINE DE BARRIOUBIO St Jean de Minervois 'DIEUVAIL' (2008)
LA GRANGE AUX BELLES Coteaux d'Aubance (2007) (50cl.)
100% Chenin Blanc
A rich golden colour and full deep character to match. The Chenin Blanc here is big with spicy apples and a good fresh acidity to balance the sugar. There are elements of wood showing on the palate, but in this instance it fits quite nicely into the overall character.
A rich, intense tangy finish.
ERIC TEXIER Macon Bussiers BOTRYTIS (2000) 100% Chardonnay
DOMAINE DE BARROUBIO Cuvee Nicolas (2008) Muscat St Jean de Minervois
DOMAINE SABLONETTES Coteaux du Layon Rablay 'LES ERABLES' (2005) 50cl 100% Chenin Blanc
A beautiful golden colour.
Good Chenin character, there’s almost a savoury hint to the fruit. The wine is wonderfully balanced, the sweetness, acidity and fruit all seem to sing together. It is sweet but a pleasure to drink because of all these contrasts.
DOMAINE RICARD 'L'Effrontee' (2007) (50cl.)
CHATEAU DE CHAMBERT Rogomme (50cl.)
100% Malbec
This style of wine has been produced on the Causse of Quercy for more than 300 years. It was known by the English rulers of the past as the 'black wine' and for very good reason.
It is almost ink black in colour with a thick, velvety, sticky concentration both in appearance and taste. The grapes have been heated in the pots that are used in the prune production, so there is a sweet prune like flavour to the wine. The malbec gives the wine a strong, spiced chocolate and quite tannic nature - but this all adds to the intrigue of the wine.
DOMAINE DES SABLONETTES Coteaux du Layon Rablay 'LE VILAIN CANARD' (2005) 50cl 100% Chenin Blanc
A bronze gold colour, it almost moves like syrup in the glass!
Unctuously rich and oily on the nose, but with apple spiced honey behind. On the palate the sweetness is astonishing (240g/l for those who want to know) but amazingly the tart apply acidity stands up to it.
This is really intense stuff!
SAUTERNES (2005) Case of 12 IB La Tour Blanche
Price shown - Under Bond London
Jancis Robinson - Very dark coppery/bronze colour. Relatively simple honeyed nose. Then masses of rich, ripe almost tropical fruit flavoured sweetness. Absolutely enormous! Extremely ambitious with a slightly burnt note. Great texture. All on the finish rather than upfront. Some very fine tannins on the very end. Set for a very long life. Very rich and round and supple. Astringency very well hidden underneath. Drink 2015-30.
Wine Spectator - Intense aromas of dried pineapple, honey and tropical fruit. Full-bodied and superdense, with masses of fruit. It goes on and on. Seductive. Fantastic. Could be the 2003 in the remake.
