St. JOHN Label wines
The St. JOHN wines are the result of close work with a number of our favourite producers from all over France. The necessity to find a wine that we are happy to recommend as our 'house wine' has had us travelling the length and breadth, sampling many many cuvees and styles. It is far harder to find wines of quality and character at this price point then say 'fine and rares' at £100 per bottle and we believe we have put the effort in to do just this.
A wine that we are proud to carry the St. JOHN name and logo.
£25.63ST. JOHN -1ER CRU BRUT BLANC DE BLANCS (NV) - STJCMPNV
De St Gall, Avize
Variety; Chardonnay
12.5% ABV
This is a delicious champagne and one I could drink for any occasion.
It is rich silky with a soft persistant mousse.
The chardonnay really sings, it is weighty enough to put with food having a breezy mid palate minerality to cleanse after scallops, langoustine, a good Brie de Mieux....
£7.35ST JOHN BLANC (2010) - STJBLC10 Sold Out, Back Soon!
Domaine de Pellehaut, Gascogne
Variety; Chardonnay Colombard Gros Manseng Petit Manseng Sauvignon Ugni Blanc
11.5% ABV
Cote de Gascogne
This wine is made by Domaine Pellehaut in the South West of France. It is clean fresh and with great white stone fruit that it tends not to feel bone dry but technically speaking it is.
These guys know what they are doing and have been firm favourites of St john for many years. They are family owned and run and are a delight to be with.
They also have a heard of d'Aquitaine cows who's manure comes in very handy in the vineyard...
£8.15ST JOHN ROUGE (2009) - STJRED09
Chateau de Lascaux, Pic St Loup
Variety; Cabernet Syrah
13.5% ABV
Vin de Pay d'Oc
Made by our friends in Pic St Loup, Trevor and I chose this blend earlier in the year after many a tasting. It is a wine (like all of their wines which are listed on these various pages) that we are proud to have the St J label upon.
It has the warm fruit you'd expexct from this southen region with dry soft tannins with a hint of Garrigue rusticity. Easy to drink it is, forgettable it is not
£8.85ST JOHN CLARET (2007) - STJCLA10 Sold Out, Back Soon!
Maison Sichel, Bordeaux
Variety; Cabernet Merlot
12.5% ABV
Appellation Bordeaux Controllee
Blended by the Sichel Family, this goes very well with the beef dripping on toast....
It has balls as a good claret should but also has elegant fruit, supple tanins and balenced acidity. Great value and a wine we are proud to put our stamp on
