Vignobles Guillaume
We have decided to put these wines in our Burgundy section as although the vineyards are situated some kilometers north-east in Haut-Saone, quality wise they should be compared to the wines of Burgundy. The family own one of the biggest vine nuseries in the world and hold clones from some very famous vineyards and domaines. About 50 years ago they built a winery and began working with these clones to produce their own wines. While only of Vin de Pays status (and price) it is right and justifiable to compare them to wines from around Beaune. There are a few very famous estates that should stand up and take notice. The sparkling wine is made of the same grape varieties and in the same way as Champagne. It frequently comes up as favourite at blind tastings against many very famous Champagne houses at a fraction of the price.

Flute Enchantee (NV)   Vignobles Guillaume SPARKLING WINE

Chardonnay / Pinot noir

Made with Champagne grape varieties and in the same way as Champagne. It even tastes like Champagne. Yet the price is definitley not Champagne.

We've tried this against many a 'well known' name from Champagne and this proves a winner nearly every time.

VIGNOBLES GUILLAUME Franche Comte 'RESERVE COLLECTION' (2004)   Chardonnay

As with the Reserve Pinot Noir this book must not be judged by its cover. It recently acheived the Chardonnay trophy in the Top 100 Vins de Pays awards. This is what they said...

"Chardonnay grapes from 38 year old vines grown in mineralic clay soils overlooking the Saone plain. Burgundian honey, butter and peach nose. Palate showing good development with peachy fruit and minerality. Good concentration and acidity"

VIGNOBLES GUILLAUME Pinot Noir (2008)   Vin De Pays Franche Comte

100% Pinot Noir

Finding well priced and drinkable Pinot Noir is fast becoming our holy grail. Time and again we seem to struggle with one or even both of these criteria.

This is Xavier's entry level Pinot. It is very, very fruity. It is very light - perhaps more accurately described as a heavy rose, but most definitely very juicy and drinkable with remarkably pure pinot notes.

VIGNOBLES GUILLAUME Reserve Pinot Noir (2002)   Vin de Pays de Franche Comte

Pinot Noir

It is very important to compare this wine to many pinot noirs from the neighbouring region of Burgundy. At this price point it is nearly impossible to find an equivilent wine with such class and depth of flavours. This vintage is just beginning to show some of those really interesting aged notes that makes Pinot so special - whilst the fruit remains pure and elegant.

It may say Vin de Pays on the label - but don't let that fool you.
